Quality of Life

Regular cycling and walking are not only fun, they are also associated with dramatically better health outcomes. One well-controlled, multi-year British study of more than 260,000 people found that commuter cyclists had a 41% lower risk of dying from all causes (including cardiovascular disease and cancer) than drivers and public transport users. Walkers and mixed-mode commuters (who biked or walked to transport) reduced their risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease by one-quarter to one-third.

Biking and walking also benefit mental health - something we can personally attest to that is also supported by research. Biking and walking create the opportunity for more social interactions. Whether it’s a 20-minute walk to stretch of your legs, a 2-mile cycle to the store, or a more ambitious ride within the region - it’s all good, and good for you.
